If you live in Seremban or are visiting this town which is the capital of Negeri Sembilan, and you want to travel to Kangar, Perlis, you can always choose to travel by bus, which is a fast yet comfortable way to go from one point to another. In Seremban, there are three bus operators that provides trips to Kangar, namely Eagle Ekspres, Intercity Coach and Transnasional. Together, they offer up to five trips a day, both in the day time and at night. In Seremban there’s only one pick-up point which is Terminal One, in the centre of Seremban town whereas in Kangar, you’ll be dropped off at Kangar Terminal. The journey takes between 6 to 8 hours depending on which bus operator you take and the traffic conditions.

For a taste of local history, go to the Malay World Weaponry Museum and State Museum and Heritage Hall. One of the most unmistakable attractions in Kangar is the Syed Alwi Mosque. This mosque was built in the 1930s and incorporates a lot traditional Malay architectural elements. Eight kilometres outside of Kangar is the famous Tasik Melati which is a picturesque lake where you can see many sand bank islands. You can rent a sampan and travel to these small islands, or just walk along the elevated walkways to take in the scenic beauty of the lake. Additionally, there’s a snake farm near here that is used for developing anti-venom but doubles as a place where visitors can learn more about these creatures. If you want to shop, you can go to Padang Besar and Bukit Kayu Hitam which are a short drive away from Kangar where you can shop in a bazaar style market setting. Be ready to haggle over products that have been brought over from our northern neighbours, Thailand. Here in Kangar, you have to look for Harumanis mangoes which are reputed to be some of the sweetest around. You’ll also want to try the seafood at Medan Ikan Bakar or Hai Thien seafood restaurant. There’s also the Bao shop at Kaki Bukit, and laksa at Restoran Nelayan.
